Warwick Lightfoot for Mayor of London

WARWICK LIGHTFOOT: HELPING THE POLICE TO CUT CRIME AND ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR

  • A Mayor who wants to see a more politically accountable Metropolitan Police and a fundamental review of police training, recruitment, promotion, management and incentives.
  • A Mayor who expects to see more police on the beat, an improvement in detection rates on the current 18 per cent and more criminals caught and punished.

WARWICK LIGHTFOOT: MAKING LONDON SAFER

  • Working with London’s diverse communities to unite against extremists.
  • Supporting the Police in protecting London against terrorism.

WARWICK LIGHTFOOT: GETTING LONDONER'S VALUE FOR THEIR MONEY

  • A Mayor who will make it a top priority to get value for money from the Mayor’s Budget. This has trebled from £3.7billion to £9.6 billion since 2001.
  • A Mayor who will hold down the Council Tax precept that has more than doubled under Ken Livingstone from £140 to £288.
  • A Mayor who will reform City Hall by ceasing to duplicate work already done by the London Boroughs.
  • A Mayor who will reduce waste by starting with a zero budget base.
  • A Mayor who will reform London’s public services and ensure that they are competently and professionally managed in order to provide better value for money.

WARWICK LIGHTFOOT: COMMITTED TO BETTER QUALITY PUBLIC TRANSPORT

  • A Mayor who will expect Transport for London to manage its employee relations more professionally in order to tackle strikes and threatened stoppages on the Underground. This may need a review of the framework of law on employee relations in essential public services.
  • We need better value for money from the investment in the underground and real results. So far we have little to show for the billions of pounds spent.
  • We need a better quality bus service. We need to bring back conductors, we need proper ventilation on buses and drivers who drive more safely and with greater consideration for their passengers.

WARWICK LIGHTFOOT: CLEANING AND GREENING LONDON

We need a greener more energy efficient London.
  • We need to plant more trees and to lay out more parks and playgrounds.
  • We need local waste management polices that encourage recycling.

WARWICK LIGHTFOOT: LONDON'S OLYMPIC GAMES

  • The Olympic Games should ‘showcase’ London to the world.
  • The legacy of the Olympic Games should be a an Olympic village that Londoners will be able to use in the future and will be proud of when the games are over.
  • The Olympic legacy should include better sports facilities and swimming pools throughout London so that we have a fitter, more active and healthier London.

WARWICK LIGHTFOOT: DELIVERING MORE JOBS AND GREATER OPPORTUNITIES FOR EVERYONE

  • A Mayor who understands how to create wealth and jobs in London.
  • A Mayor who will tackle London’s slow employment growth and focus on ensuring that local communities do not get left behind and trapped in poverty and unemployment.

WARWICK LIGHTFOOT: PROMOTING LONDON'S SUCCESSFUL FINANCIAL MARKETS

  • London’s financial markets are the key to the success of the London economy.
  • We need a mayor who understands London’s financial markets and will work to promote them with the private sector and the Corporation of London.

WARWICK LIGHTFOOT: A MAYOR FOR ALL POSTCODES WHO WILL WORK WITH EVERYONE FOR LONDON

  • We need a mayor who will work with the London Boroughs not against the London Boroughs.
  • We need an advisory senate of London Boroughs Leaders.
  • A Mayor who will work together with everyone in the interest of all Londoners.
  • We need better policies to protect and develop the suburban communities in outer London. There needs to be better use of suburban stations and better orbital bus routes in outer London.
  • We need to protect neighbourhood shops and maintain diverse shopping and retail centres.
